Another great European Dog Show
At the time of writing the Czech canine organisation (CMKU) is hard at work on the last preparations for the FCI European Dog Show 2014 in Brno. The number of entries is impressive almost 15,000 dogs + those who take part in the circuit breed club shows.
The CMKU which back in 1991 also organised the EDS – also in Brno – is an experienced organiser and I am convinced that the event is in the best hands and that the FCI Europe Section will be proud of the show when the results are available.

The CMKU and the Slovakian SKJ previously lived close together when they belonged to the same state. After the separation in the first half of the 1990s, the good co-operation has fortunately continued and can in many connections be seen as a model for others.
Many clubs celebrate their jubilees
In connection with the World Dog Show in Helsinki in August the Finnish Kennel Club, FKK, celebrated their 125th jubilee. The WDS was a fantastic show which was celebrated with style, enthusiasm and in the best sportsmanlike way. The Helsinki shows are always special, and when it comes to dogs, Finland is a truly remarkable country: In spite of being a population of less than 5 million inhabitants the Finns have a dog culture that probably cannot be matched anywhere in the world. For example the fact that 80 % of all Finnish dogs are pure-bred and registered in the Finnish Kennel Club can make any other kennel club envious.
But also the Raad van Beheer, the Dutch canine organisation, can celebrate its 125th jubilee and I am sure that this will be marked in connection with the traditional Amsterdam Winner Show late in the year. The Raad van Beheer is an active and well-esteemed club with lots of activity within a large number of dog sports disciplines.
Also the Swedish Kennel Club, SKK, is reaching 125 years this year and this will be officially celebrated in connection with the traditional “Stockholm Dog Fair” show in December this year. The SKK is a large and well-reputed club which has skilfully managed to place dog issues on the agenda of Swedish society.
On behalf of the FCI I send my heartfelt congratulations to all 3 canine organisations.
Yours sincerely,
